Rooibos is a botanical extract that is indigenous to South Africa. Traditionally used by the Khoi San tribe for medicinal purposes, Rooibos has been consumed by health-savvy South Africans for centuries.
The list of Rooibos' medicinal healing abilities is long and impressive: It treats sleep problems, insomnia, stomach ulcers, indigestion, bowel pain, skin irritations and nervous tension. Because of its high calcium, magnesium and fluoride content it helps create strong bones and teeth. It is well known to be a mother's miracle for pacifying colicky babies, and recent studies have also shown that it can protect against brain degeneration and conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
In the UK, Rooibos is enjoying fast-growing popularity as a caffeine-free, anti-oxidant and hydrating cup of tea and this has been boosted recently by the launch of Tetley's Redbush brand.
Medicinal benefits aside, Rooibos is set to be the next big thing in the skincare industry. Recent international independent research has confirmed Rooibos as a potent cosmetic ingredient in delaying the aging process and treating a host of problem and sensitive skin conditions. |
